Mark Loundy has been a journalist since 1976, first serving as personal photographer for Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley, an intern at the L.A. Times and later as a staff photographer for United Press International in the U.S. and in Europe. He was the Photo Assignment Editor for Thomson L.A. News Group until 1995. He joined the world of social media in 1997 as Senior Editor for GeoCities. In 2000, he helped found the financial news program Yahoo! FinanceVision. He currently runs MediaWoorks, a video production and media content consultancy. From 1990 to 1997, he was Telecommunications Chairman for the National Press Photographers Association, overseeing that organization's operations on the Worldwide Web, CompuServe and on the Internet. He was awarded the J.Winton Leman Fellowship award by the NPPA for "outstanding service in the interests of press photography and for outstanding technical achievement in photography." He was a founding member of the Business Practices Committee and also served as the committee chairman. While serving as Telecomm Chair, he founded the NPPA Web site and the online discussion list, NPPA-L. He was a three-time faculty member of the Electronic Photojournalism Workshop. He has moderated and served on numerous panels on digital ethics, copyright and media law. He also writes and speaks on future media technology and created several of the earliest interactive news prototypes in the early 1990s. Mark, his wife, former newspaper editor Patricia Wolf, and their three children, live in San Jose, California.
